Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Nigeria has extended the sale of subsidized rice to the state’s pensioners, aiming to alleviate their hardship amid rising food prices.
This initiative was announced by the Head of Service, Kehinde Onasanya, on Monday while overseeing the distribution to the Local Government Pensioners Association of Nigeria (LOGPAN) at its Ita Oshin secretariat in Abeokuta. Onasanya emphasized that bringing rice directly to pensioners was intended to ease any difficulties they might face in purchasing it.
“We are committed to eliminating any hardship pensioners may likely encounter in acquiring this essential commodity,” said Onasanya, urging retirees to take full advantage of the program, which reflects the administration’s genuine concern for their well-being.
The initiative has been well received by the pensioners. Pastor Benedict Ademoye, State Chairman of LOGPAN, expressed gratitude, noting that “this gesture will significantly lessen the suffering of pensioners during this challenging economic period.”
Mrs. Bernice Lawal, Chairman of Retired Primary School Teachers in the state, highlighted that this was the first time such a program had been extended to her members since her retirement in 2009. “This is a commendable effort by the governor to ensure that our retirement years are more comfortable,” she remarked.
The distribution of subsidized rice continues as part of the state’s broader efforts to support vulnerable groups.
