Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has responded to critics who mock his love for dancing, saying they should focus on his performance in office rather than his personal expression.
Speaking at a public event, Governor Adeleke addressed the frequent jokes and criticism about his dance videos, which often go viral on social media. He stated that dancing is simply a way for him to express joy and should not be used to judge his leadership.
“Stop judging me just because I choose to express myself through dancing. It is my joy, my freedom, and an essential part of who I am,” Adeleke said. “If it brings me happiness and harms no one, then there is no reason it should be condemned.”
The governor pointed out that other Nigerian leaders, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and President Bola Tinubu, also dance publicly without facing the same level of criticism.
“Sanwo-Olu is dancing. Everybody is dancing. Even Baba (President Tinubu) is dancing. So, there is no law that says just because you are a governor, you can’t dance,” he added.
Adeleke urged the public and political commentators to evaluate him based on his governance and policies rather than his personal hobbies.
His nephew, popular musician Davido, recently defended him online, calling him the best governor Osun State has ever had. Davido said critics underestimate Adeleke simply because of his dancing.
Governor Adeleke maintained that his work in office should speak for itself and that his passion for dancing should not overshadow his achievements.
