The Fusengbuwa Ruling House of Ijebu land has strongly criticized the renowned Fuji musician, Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM1, for sending a protest letter to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun.
In the letter, the musician alleged that he is being deliberately excluded from the ongoing selection process for the next Awujale of Ijebuland.
Professor Fassy Yusuf, Vice Chairman of the ruling house, dismissed the letter as “arrant nonsense” and stated it has no bearing on the family’s internal selection process.
He explained that the family, which has over 20,000 members, had to create a manageable screening procedure for the many aspirants to the vacant throne, which has reportedly attracted over 60 candidates.
KWAM1’s lawyer had argued in the letter that the ruling house’s procedures for selecting nominees through delegates and a screening committee were inconsistent with the state’s Chieftaincy laws and an attempt to disenfranchise his client.
The ruling house, however, maintains that KWAM1 is not a member of their family and is therefore not qualified to participate.
The Awujale stool became vacant in July of last year following the death of the long-reigning Oba Sikiru Adetona. The nomination meeting for aspirants from the Fusengbuwa Ruling House is scheduled to proceed.
