Nollywood actress and producer Funke Akindele has once again made history with her latest film, Everybody Loves Jenifa, grossing over ₦1.3 billion in just three weeks.
The comedy-drama has set a new benchmark, becoming the fastest Nollywood movie to reach the ₦1 billion mark, achieving this feat in only 19 days.
Announcing the milestone via a post on X (formerly Twitter), Akindele revealed that the film earned a cumulative total of ₦1,034,091,220 within the last 12 months, making it the second Nollywood film to surpass ₦1 billion within a year.
Box Office Domination
The film has dominated the December box office, accounting for 40% of total revenue with 202,604 admissions nationwide. Beyond Nigeria, Everybody Loves Jenifa has also seen international success, earning approximately ₦300 million in eight days across markets including the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada.
This achievement cements Funke Akindele’s status as Nollywood’s highest-grossing producer and director. She now holds the record for the top four highest-grossing Nollywood films, including her earlier hits Omo Ghetto: The Saga (₦1.5 billion) and A Tribe Called Judah (₦1 billion in 21 days).
Expressing her gratitude, Akindele wrote, “God did! Thank you, Jenifans, for supporting Everybody Loves Jenifa! We couldn’t have gotten here without you.”
The movie’s blend of humor, drama, and suspense continues to captivate audiences worldwide, further solidifying Akindele’s legacy as a Nollywood icon.
