Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has officially presented the staff of office and certificates of recognition to four newly designated monarchs in the state, including Mujahid Asari Dokubo, a former Niger Delta freedom fighter.

Asari Dokubo was conferred the title of His Royal Majesty, the Amanyanabo of Torusarama Piri in Degema Local Government Area, Rivers State. Other honorees include HRM Winston Odize Alamina Oputibeya XII, crowned as the Amanyanabo of Koniju in Okrika LGA; HRM Eze Noble Friday Uwoh (CSP rtd), recognized as the Eze Igbu-Ehuda (Ahoada) IV in Ahoada-East LGA; and HRH Prince Ike Ehie, who now holds the title of Eze Igbu Orilukwoe in the same LGA.

The presentation ceremony took place at the Rivers State Government House in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

Governor’s Charge to Monarchs

During the event, Governor Fubara highlighted the importance of traditional rulers in promoting peace, unity, and development. He charged the monarchs to collaborate with the government to safeguard lives and property within their respective domains.

Fubara cautioned the new leaders against using their positions for personal gain or to incite problems. He emphasized the government’s power to withdraw recognition from any ruler found wanting, though he expressed hope that such measures would not be necessary.

“Your appointment is not for personal aggrandizement but a call to service, a responsibility to help us protect lives and property in your domains,” the governor stated.

He added, “I know that you are all men of integrity. Support the course of governance so that we can all succeed together. It is a privileged position, and I am very sure that you will use it in the best interest of your people.”

Recognition of Monarchs

The Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Engr Charles Amadi, commended Governor Fubara for his efforts in increasing the membership of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers. He noted that the newly recognized monarchs include two Royal Majesties and two Royal Highnesses, further strengthening the state’s traditional leadership structure.
