A new group of 390 stranded Nigerians has been successfully repatriated from Niamey, Niger Republic, and arrived in Kano in the early hours of Tuesday, January 14, 2025.

The returnees, consisting of 387 adult males, two adult females, and one infant boy, were received at the Nigeria Immigration Training School at about 1:05 a.m.

This marks the third phase of voluntary repatriations facilitated by the Federal Government, in collaboration with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the Nigerian Mission in Niamey. The initiative follows a similar operation in December 2024, which saw 702 Nigerians brought back home.

During a reception held in Kano, the Federal Commissioner for the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), Tijjani Ahmed, reaffirmed the government’s dedication to reintegrating the returnees into empowerment programs under President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda. Represented by the Kano State Field Coordinator, Hajiya Liman, the commissioner emphasized that the program aims to provide sustainable support for the returnees.

“Upon arrival, the returnees were registered and profiled by NCFRMI and Nigeria Immigration Service officials to ensure proper documentation and access to various federal government reintegration support programs,” Liman explained.

The commissioner also commended the seamless collaboration among the agencies involved, which he credited for the successful repatriation process.
