Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, has asserted that food inflation in Nigeria is on the decline.

According to Onanuga, the prices of essential food items such as yam and tomatoes have significantly reduced.

In a post on X, Onanuga stated, “Food inflation is coming down as prices of yam, tomatoes decline massively.” He was responding to a report highlighting the recent price drop in food markets. The report indicated that a large basket of tomatoes at Ketu Market, which previously sold for N150,000, is now available for N55,000 to N60,000. Similarly, the price of a large basket of habanero pepper, known locally as rodo, has dropped from N55,000 to an average of N25,000.
