Five policemen have lost their lives in a tragic road accident while returning from election duty in Edo State to Kano. The accident occurred on Tuesday along the Kano-Zaria expressway, leaving the police command and their families in mourning.
Confirming the incident, the Kano State Police Commissioner, Salman Garba, stated that the accident involved a head-on collision between the officers’ vehicle and a trailer that was reversing on the highway. “The deceased officers are from the Kano State police command. They were drafted to Edo State for election duty, where they successfully carried out their assignment. Sadly, they lost their lives at Karfi, when their vehicle collided with a reversing trailer,” Garba said.
The crash, which happened at Karfi, also left eight other officers injured, including the driver of the trailer. All survivors are currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Kano.
In a phone conversation with newsmen, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dogo, expressed the command’s shock over the loss. “It is unfortunate, we lost five of our officers to a fatal accident. We are making every effort to ensure the injured receive adequate treatment and pray for their quick recovery. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased during this difficult time,” he said.
This incident comes shortly after the successful completion of the Edo governorship election, where the officers were deployed to maintain law and order. The police command has promised to support the families of the fallen officers and ensure that those injured receive the best possible care.
