A fire outbreak on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, gutted several shops in Ladipo Market, Lagos, Nigeria, destroying goods worth millions of naira.
The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident in a statement, revealing that distress calls were received through the state’s emergency toll-free lines at approximately 12:09 a.m.
“LASEMA immediately activated the state’s emergency response plans, and a response team from its Cappa Base was deployed,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.
Upon arrival at 12:16 a.m., responders discovered that a warehouse surrounded by shops had been engulfed by flames. Preliminary investigations indicated that the fire was caused by an electrical power surge following the restoration of public electricity to the area.
Although no casualties or injuries were reported, the inferno destroyed valuable goods, including electronics, generators, bicycles, auto spare parts, mobile phones, and home appliances.
Authorities have since sensitized warehouse occupants on safety measures to prevent future occurrences.
