A devastating fire has ravaged the Oko Baba plank market in the Ebute Metta area of Lagos, Nigeria, destroying goods worth millions of naira. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) reported that the cause of the fire remains unknown, but fortunately, no lives were lost, and no injuries were sustained.
Emergency responders, including LASEMA, the LRU Fire Unit, and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, swiftly arrived at the scene after distress calls were made. The fire consumed the main plank market and nearby shanties.
LASEMA spokesman Nosa Okunbor stated that “dampening down” efforts are ongoing to prevent re-ignition, and occupants have been educated on fire prevention measures in market areas.
