A tragic fire engulfed the Christ Apostolic Church in Wisdom Estate, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria trapping several worshippers during a Friday vigil. The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. on December 13 along Olohunda Road in Lagelu Local Government Area.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the fire started while some attendees had fallen asleep, preparing for the vigil. One source said, “Some worshippers had already slept off to rest before the vigil started when the fire broke out.”
Another witness recounted the chaos, highlighting the plight of an elderly woman unable to escape unaided.
Emergency responders from the Oyo State Fire Services, alerted by a resident, rushed to the scene. The agency’s General Manager, Akinyemi Akinyinka, confirmed the incident, stating, “Our men responded based on information from one Kunle Junaid.” However, the cause of the fire remains unknown as of press time.
Updates on the condition of the trapped worshippers and the extent of the damage are awaited as investigations continue.
