FIFA has opened an investigation into the president of the Congolese Football Association and two other officials over alleged financial misconduct related to the country’s World Cup qualifying campaign.

The world football governing body said the probe will examine possible breaches of its financial regulations and improper use of funds allocated for national team activities.

The investigation follows concerns raised after Nigeria’s appeal against the Democratic Republic of Congo over player eligibility in their World Cup playoff match, although FIFA previously rejected that appeal.

FIFA’s ethics and compliance unit is expected to review financial records, transactions and contracts to determine whether any officials misappropriated funds or failed to meet reporting obligations.

The Congolese FA president and the two other implicated officials have been notified of the investigation and are expected to cooperate with FIFA auditors and investigators.

Football analysts say the probe underscores ongoing efforts by international football authorities to improve financial transparency and accountability within national associations across Africa.

FIFA has not yet indicated whether any disciplinary sanctions will be imposed, saying the outcome will depend on the findings and any confirmed violations of its statutes and financial rules.

The investigation comes amid broader scrutiny of governance issues within football administration on the continent.
