The Federal Government of Nigeria is set to arraign 130 individuals on Friday, November 29, 2024 for alleged involvement in cybercrimes, hacking, and activities deemed threats to national security.
The suspects include 113 foreign nationals—87 males and 26 females—predominantly of Chinese and Malaysian origin, alongside 17 Nigerian collaborators (4 males and 13 females).
The suspects were apprehended during a coordinated raid led by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone 7, Benneth Igweh. The operation, which took place on November 3, targeted a building in the Next Cash and Carry area of Jahi, Abuja. Officers from the Nigeria Police Force Zone 7 Command and the National Cyber Crime Centre (NPF-NCCC) were involved in the operation.
According to police reports, the suspects were found using computers and advanced devices to execute criminal activities.
Speaking on the arrests, a police representative stated, “This operation demonstrates our commitment to tackling cybercrime and protecting national security. The suspects were caught in possession of sophisticated tools used for illegal activities.”
The suspects are scheduled to appear before Justice Ekerete Akpan of the Federal High Court, where they will face charges related to cybercrime and national security breaches.
