A federal government panel investigating Nigeria’s recent national grid failures has identified poor maintenance and outdated equipment as primary causes. The panel, chaired by Nafisatu Asabe Ali, presented its findings in Abuja, revealing that equipment issues and high-voltage surges led to power outages on October 14 and 19, 2024. Equipment failures, including lightning arrestor damage at Jebba and Oshogbo stations, were cited, with aging infrastructure playing a key role.

Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu pledged to secure funding to modernize the grid, emphasizing the need for reforms to prevent future outages.
