The Federal Government of Nigeria has lifted the suspension on Arik Air’s operations, allowing the airline to resume flights after a week of being grounded. This decision was made after resolving a dispute between Arik Air and Atlas Petroleum.
Michael Achimugu, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), announced the resolution in a statement on X. He confirmed that the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo SAN, alongside the Director General of NCAA, Capt. Chris Najomo, played key roles in settling the impasse.
The suspension was initially ordered due to a $2.5 million debt owed by Arik Air to Atlas Petroleum, leading to the attachment of several Arik aircraft by a court order. However, with the dispute now resolved, Arik Air has been allowed to recommence its operations, and passengers have already begun checking in for scheduled flights.
