In a bid to promote Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as an alternative energy source, the Federal Government has introduced a flexible payment plan for vehicle owners across Nigeria. The initiative is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to reduce reliance on petrol and cushion the impact of rising fuel costs.
According to a statement released by the National Orientation Agency (NOA) on Tuesday, the new payment plan is designed to make it easier for Nigerians to convert their vehicles to CNG by offering affordable monthly installments. “With flexible payment plans tailored to fit your budget, transitioning from petrol to CNG has never been smoother or more affordable,” the NOA said.
The government is also focusing on raising awareness about the benefits of CNG, including cost savings, environmental advantages, and improved engine longevity. NOA added, “These payment options allow you to convert your vehicle now and pay later with affordable monthly installments at competitive rates.”
The statement further highlighted the ease of applying for the conversion process, describing it as a “simple application process” with quick approvals to ensure a seamless experience. Vehicle owners are encouraged to visit the government’s dedicated CNG portal to begin the process.
The move comes as the Federal Government continues to push for greater adoption of CNG as part of its broader energy transition strategy. “CNG is now more accessible than ever, offering Nigerians a reliable and proven technology with a track record of safety and dependable performance,” the agency emphasized.
In addition to cost savings, the shift to CNG is expected to enhance engine life and contribute to a cleaner environment, reducing Nigeria’s carbon footprint.
This policy comes amidst rising fuel prices, prompting the government to provide alternatives to alleviate the financial burden on citizens.
