The Federal Government has authorized the implementation of an electronic verification system for military pensioners to enhance the efficiency of pension administration and curb fraudulent practices.
This decision was disclosed by the Chairman of the Military Pensions Board (MPB), AVM Paul Irumheson, during a press briefing in Abuja.
AVM Irumheson emphasized that the new system aims to streamline the verification process, reduce logistical challenges associated with physical verification, and mitigate the financial burden on pensioners, particularly those residing abroad.
He highlighted the successful completion of a pilot phase, which revealed minimal issues that have since been addressed to optimize the electronic verification platform.
The Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Matawalle, and the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, have endorsed the commencement of the nationwide verification exercise.
AVM Irumheson urged all military pensioners to actively participate in the three-month electronic verification exercise starting from July 1 to September 30.
He stressed that pensioners who fail to participate will risk the interruption of their pension payments.
The MPB chairman assured pensioners of adequate public awareness campaigns to facilitate their seamless engagement with the electronic verification process.
