The Federal Government has awarded a N30 million donation to the family of the late Taiwo Akinkunmi, the designer of Nigeria’s national flag, in recognition of his contributions to the country.
The donation was presented by the Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Lanre Issa-Onilu, alongside Olukemi Afolayan, the Oyo State Director of the agency.
The presentation took place on Thursday at the late Akinkunmi’s Ibadan residence, two years after his passing on August 29, 2023, at the age of 87. During a condolence visit on September 4, 2023, President Bola Tinubu had pledged both a national burial and financial support for the family.
Issa-Onilu emphasized that the N30 million donation was not payment for Akinkunmi’s services, but a gesture to support his family and appreciate his invaluable legacy. Akinkunmi’s son, Akinwunmi Akinkunmi, expressed heartfelt gratitude to President Tinubu for the generous gesture.
