The Federal Government has announced Tuesday, October 1, 2024, as a public holiday to commemorate the 64th anniversary of Nigeria’s independence.

This declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the government. In a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, Tunji-Ojo congratulated Nigerians at home and abroad on the milestone occasion.

“The patience and hard work of Nigerian men and women will not be in vain,” Tunji-Ojo assured, adding that the sacrifices made by citizens contribute to the nation’s progress.

The minister echoed the anniversary’s theme, urging Nigerians to reflect on the labour of the country’s past heroes. “Our dream Nigeria can only be built when we unite,” he said, calling for greater efforts in nation-building.

In his message of goodwill, Tunji-Ojo encouraged citizens to remain steadfast and committed to the task of nation-building, expressing optimism for a brighter future. “As we celebrate this significant day, let us continue to foster unity and cooperation for the advancement of our great nation.”

Nigerians were wished a happy Independence Day celebration as the country marks another year of freedom and sovereignty.
