Nollywood actor Femi Adebayo recently won the Best Supporting Actor award for his role in Jagun Jagun at the 20th Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), held in Lagos on November 2, 2024.

The historical thriller, which had received seven nominations, also won Achievement Awards in Visual Effects and Makeup. Other notable winners included Elsie Abang for Best Actress in a Supporting Role in Kipkemboi, Michell Lemuya as Best Young Promising Actor for Nawi, and Zolisa Xaluva as Best Actor in a Leading Role for The Queenstown King. Jackie Appiah won Best Actress in a Leading Role for Red Carpet.

The award for Best Feature Film by a Director went to Letters to Goddo, directed by Harry Bentil, while Jahmil X.T. Qubeka won Best Director for The Queenstown Kings. Lifetime Achievement Awards were presented to Souleymane Cissé, Nacer Khemir, and Haile Gerima. The top honor, the AMAA Best Film Award, was awarded to The Weekend, which also won for Achievement in Screenplay, Cinematography, and Best Nigerian Film from the National Film and Video Censors Board.

The AMAA event underscored the importance of celebrating African stories globally. Dr. Raymond Anyiam-Osigwe, CEO of AMAA, expressed his gratitude to Lagos and Bayelsa states, as well as international attendees, marking this milestone as the awards enter their second decade.
