Officials from the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) on Monday sealed Wadata Plaza, the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja, over the non-payment of ground rent spanning 28 years. The action was carried out by FCTA staff, who locked the entrance gate of the property located in Wuse Zone 5, following repeated warnings and the formal revocation of the property’s land title earlier in March.

According to FCTA officials, the owner of the property, Senator Samaila Mamman Kurfi, failed to settle outstanding annual ground rent, which is part of a wider clampdown on properties with revoked land titles due to unpaid fees. The PDP secretariat is among thousands of properties affected by this enforcement exercise, which also includes commercial buildings such as banks, hotels, and government offices in Abuja.

The FCT Minister’s spokesperson emphasized that the operation was strictly administrative and in line with the Land Use Act, dismissing any claims of political motivation. It was clarified that the FCTA deals only with registered property owners, not tenants, and that the revocation notice was properly served.

The sealing of the PDP headquarters comes just hours before a scheduled National Executive Committee meeting, adding to the party’s ongoing internal challenges. The FCTA has stated that the enforcement will continue until all revoked properties are addressed, urging compliance with land administration regulations to avoid similar actions.
