Tension has gripped Ilowa Gbade Village in Atiba Local Government Area of Oyo State, Nigeria, following a violent attack by suspected Fulani herdsmen, who reportedly cut off a farmer’s hand during a confrontation.

The victim, John Akin, was tending to his cassava farm when herdsmen invaded with their cattle, trampling his crops. When Akin attempted to chase them off, the herdsmen allegedly attacked him with machetes, severing parts of his fingers.

Eyewitnesses say the gruesome act has sparked unrest in the village, with residents demanding justice. One of the attackers has been apprehended and is currently in police custody. The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed ongoing investigations, with efforts underway to track down other suspects involved.

The attack has reignited concerns over the persistent farmer-herder clashes in Nigeria, with community leaders and residents calling on Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration to intervene and implement stronger measures to protect farmers from similar incidents.

Authorities urge calm as security forces work to prevent further violence in the region.
