
The family of Ross Ogbeinde, a Nigerian student in the United Kingdom, has appealed for financial assistance to cover his burial expenses following his sudden death on December 29, 2024.
Ogbeinde, a native of Benin City in Edo State, was pursuing his studies at the University of South Wales and was set to graduate in January 2025. He lived in Pontypridd, South Wales, with his wife and three children.
According to a statement by his wife, Benedicta, shared on a GoFundMe page, Ogbeinde collapsed unexpectedly and passed away before an ambulance could arrive. The funds raised will help with burial arrangements and provide financial support for his widow and their young children.
“The young widow will need your support to care for the children and meet their immediate needs,” the note read.
As of Sunday, only £225 had been donated by eight contributors, far below the £20,000 target.
Ogbeinde’s death is part of a worrying trend of sudden fatalities among Nigerians in the UK. It was gathered that on January 3, 2024, a case of Chinonso Ezeonwumere, an MSc student at the University of Hertfordshire, who died in similar circumstances.
