The family of British-Nigerian boxing star Anthony Joshua is demanding access to him after a tragic car crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway claimed the lives of two of his close friends and team members, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele. Joshua, who sustained a leg fracture in the accident, is currently receiving treatment at Duchess International Hospital in Lagos.
The crash, which occurred on December 29, 2025, has sparked widespread concern and tributes from the boxing world, with President Bola Tinubu and other dignitaries expressing their sympathies to Joshua and the families of the victims. The driver of the vehicle, who has been discharged from the hospital, is facing possible prosecution for reckless driving, with investigators citing excessive speed and wrongful overtaking as the primary causes of the crash.
Joshua’s family is reportedly shocked and saddened by the incident, with his uncle, Adedamola Joshua, describing the news as a “rude shock”. The family is seeking access to Joshua, who is expected to remain under observation at the hospital until the New Year.
The incident has raised concerns about road safety in Nigeria, with many calling for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and driver accountability. Joshua, who recently defeated Jake Paul in a heavyweight bout in Miami, is said to be in stable condition and receiving appropriate medical attention.
