Former Minister of Women Affairs in Nigeria , Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, has returned to Nollywood with the release of her latest film, Hatred.
Kennedy-Ohanenye, who was appointed as a minister by President Bola Tinubu on August 21, 2023, was dismissed from her position on October 23, 2024, as part of a cabinet reshuffle that saw four other ministers removed.
Following her exit from public office, the 51-year-old politician has shifted her focus back to the Nigerian film industry. On Wednesday, February 5, 2025, she announced the release of Hatred on her YouTube platform, Kenuj TV, via a post on X (formerly Twitter).
“Excited to share my latest project Hatred with you all. Watch now on Kenuj TV,” she wrote, attaching the film’s link.
Kennedy-Ohanenye’s transition back to Nollywood marks a significant career shift after her tenure in government. Before entering politics, she was actively involved in creative projects, making her return to filmmaking a natural progression.
Why Tinubu Fired Kennedy-Ohanenye
During her time as Minister of Women Affairs, Kennedy-Ohanenye faced several controversies, particularly regarding her handling of gender-related issues such as child abuse and women’s rights. Her approach to these sensitive matters sparked public backlash, and her removal was reportedly linked to a loss of confidence in her performance.
Despite her departure from government, Kennedy-Ohanenye has remained active, now focusing on the entertainment industry where she first made her mark.
