Nigerian rapper Erigga has declared his collaborator Phyno as the greatest Nigerian rapper in history, praising his longevity and consistent relevance across different eras of hip-hop.
During an interview with Echoo Room, Erigga explained why he holds Phyno in such high regard while discussing their recent hit single ‘Up Iweka’. “I look at Phyno as someone who has been in the game and lived through different times. He is the GOAT. Phyno is the greatest Nigerian rapper because he lived those times, and he is still relevant,” Erigga stated.
The “Motivation” rapper revealed that working with Phyno was a long-awaited dream, noting that their collaboration was a natural fit due to their shared artistic energy.
Meanwhile, fellow rapper Falz opened up about his socially conscious approach to music, crediting influences like Fela Kuti and Trybesmen for shaping his activism-driven artistry. The contrast between Phyno’s versatile reign and Falz’s issue-oriented rap highlights the diversity within Nigeria’s thriving hip-hop scene.
