The Lagos Police Command has confirmed that all individuals arrested during the fourth anniversary of the #EndSARS protest have been released. The announcement was made by the Command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, who posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account that Commissioner of Police (CP) Olanrewaju Ishola ensured their release at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

The release came after public outcry over the arrests and alleged assault on peaceful protesters who gathered at Lekki to commemorate the 2020 #EndSARS shootings. Protesters carried placards with messages such as “Never to forget” and “Four years after, no justice,” demanding the full implementation of the judicial panel’s recommendations and an end to police brutality.

Although Hundeyin confirmed the protesters’ release, he did not address questions regarding the reasons for the initial arrests or the force used against the demonstrators. Social media videos showed anti-riot police dispersing the crowd with teargas and reportedly injuring some of the protesters. Despite the disruption, the protesters had insisted on completing their memorial march in honor of their fallen comrades.
