Suspected arsonists have reportedly detonated explosives at the Rivers State secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Port Harcourt on Saturday morning, just hours before the state’s Local Government election.

The explosion, believed to have been caused by dynamites, severely damaged the main gate, the security house, and parts of a nearby building. Video footage circulating on social media captured the extent of the damage at the APC secretariat.

Chief Tony Okocha, the caretaker committee chairman of the APC in Rivers State, confirmed the incident to newsmen, accusing supporters of Governor Siminalayi Fubara of orchestrating the attack.

“At the wee hours of Saturday, pro-Fubara civilian soldiers detonated dynamites at our office,” Okocha claimed. “The second attempt to set it ablaze was foiled as the security at the gate quickly put out the fire.”

The incident has sparked tension ahead of the Local Government elections, as the opposition party condemned the attack and called for immediate investigations.
