As the Eid-el-Kabir celebration continues, many Nigerians in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are finding it difficult to afford food and other essentials due to rising prices. The increase in prices has affected many households, with many struggling to make ends meet.

Traders at Dutse Market in Bwari Area Council blame wholesalers and transportation costs for the increase in prices. “I know that some buyers may blame us because they don’t know how we get these goods from the wholesalers – the challenge of transporting the goods to the market,” said Mrs. Hajiya Hassana, a petty trader.

Buyers, on the other hand, are calling on the government to intervene and control prices. “I can’t remember the last time I ate to my satisfaction; I only eat to survive,” said Mrs. Amina Bawa, a buyer. Another buyer, Mr. Mohammed Rabiu, pleaded for government intervention, saying, “We need government intervention to bring down the cost of goods.”

The situation highlights the need for regulatory measures to curb the rising cost of goods and services in Nigeria. Many are calling for urgent action to address the issue, which is affecting not only food items but also all goods and services.

The prices of foodstuffs have continued to rise, making it difficult for families to afford basic needs. The government’s removal of fuel subsidy has also been blamed for the increase in prices. “It has not been like this before; things just changed automatically since the removal of fuel subsidy,” said Mrs. Hassana.

As the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations continues, many Nigerians are struggling to afford the basics. The government’s intervention is crucial to address the situation and provide relief to many households.
