The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has approved the recommendation of the Technical and Development Sub-Committee to retain Coach Augustine Eguavoen as Head Coach of the Super Eagles.

Eguavoen, who is also the Federation’s Technical Director, will lead the team in its 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches against Libya next month.

At 58, Eguavoen has already led the Super Eagles three times before, and under his temporary leadership this month, the team secured a 3-0 victory against Benin Republic and a scoreless draw with Rwanda during Matchdays 1 and 2. The NFF stated, “Coach Eguavoen’s experience and prior results have earned him the trust to continue guiding the team through this critical period.”

In addition to his role with the senior team, Eguavoen and his technical crew—which includes Fidelis Ilechukwu, Daniel Ogunmodede, Olatunji Baruwa, and Tomaz Zorec—will also oversee the Super Eagles B team as they begin their campaign for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) next year.

Following the departure of Randy Waldrum, the NFF’s Executive Committee has also approved the appointment of Coach Justin Madugu as interim Head Coach of the Super Falcons. Madugu will lead the team’s technical crew as they prepare for the Women Africa Cup of Nations finals scheduled for Morocco next summer. The NFF remarked, “Coach Madugu will take charge of the Super Falcons pending the appointment of a substantive head coach.”

The NFF emphasized that the upcoming tournaments are key opportunities for Nigeria to assert its dominance in African football.
