The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has summoned popular cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, and social media influencer Martins Otse, alias VeryDarkMan, over allegations of bribery involving some of its officers.

EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, ordered an immediate investigation following a viral video shared by VeryDarkMan. In the video, Bobrisky claimed that certain unnamed EFCC officers received a bribe of N15 million from him to drop money laundering charges. The money, according to Bobrisky, was transferred into his company’s Eco Bank account between September 2021 and April 2024.

Bobrisky, who had faced six charges related to naira abuse and money laundering amounting to N127,780,877.98, mentioned in the video that the charges were dropped after his legal counsel, Suleiman Suleiman, reached an agreement with the EFCC. Suleiman had told the court, “We have an agreement with the defendant, which will lead us to withdraw counts 5 and 6. In the circumstance, we’re humbly urging the court to strike out counts 5 and 6, leaving counts 1 to 4 alive.”

Reacting to the allegations, EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, confirmed that both Bobrisky and VeryDarkMan have been invited to the EFCC’s Lagos Directorate to assist with the investigation. He stated, “The EFCC Chairman has ordered an immediate investigation into the bribery allegations made by Bobrisky in the video. To this end, the Commission hereby invites both Okuneye and Otse to make themselves available to assist investigators in unearthing the alleged bribery.”

The EFCC assured the public that the investigation would be thorough and transparent. “The EFCC is committed to its core values of integrity, courage, professionalism, and collaboration at all times. The results of this investigation will be made public accordingly,” Oyewale added.
