The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has granted bail to two individuals named as co-defendants in a 16-count charge filed against former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.

The case, which involves an alleged N110.4 billion fraud, was brought before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Maitama, on Thursday. However, the EFCC revealed that it has yet to serve the charge on the former governor.

During the court session, neither Bello nor his legal representatives were present. EFCC counsel, Jamiu Agoro, informed the court that the two co-defendants, Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, had been released from detention pending their arraignment.

Agoro further explained that the Commission had complied with a court order issued on October 18, which mandated a public summons for Bello to appear and respond to the charges. The summons remains valid until November 17.

“In that wise, we feel it will not be appropriate to take proceedings in this matter while the 30 days is still running,” Agoro stated, requesting an adjournment.

The court granted the adjournment, shifting the trial to November 27, and directed the issuance of a fresh hearing notice to the former governor.
