The arrest of controversial social media personality Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken a new twist as associates allege the anti-graft agency is denying him access to outside food.

VDM’s close friend, Koko Pee, released a series of emotional videos documenting their failed attempts to deliver meals to the detained influencer at EFCC headquarters. In one clip filmed outside the commission’s office, Koko Pee lamented: “We are here at the EFCC headquarters, trying to take food and go see VDM. The body that took the beating needs to eat.”

A follow-up video showed Koko Pee returning empty-handed, revealing: “There is a standing order for no one to see him or give him food until Monday.” The development has intensified scrutiny of VDM’s arrest on Friday, which his lawyer Deji Adeyanju previously characterized as questionable.

The EFCC’s alleged refusal to permit food deliveries has drawn criticism from civil society groups monitoring the case. “Denying a detainee access to food from trusted sources raises serious humanitarian and legal concerns,” remarked human rights advocate Amina Yusuf. “This goes beyond investigation into potential rights violation territory.”

Attempts to reach EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale for clarification proved unsuccessful, with all listed commission contacts unresponsive. The silence has fueled speculation about the circumstances surrounding VDM’s detention, particularly following unverified claims of bank involvement in his arrest.

VDM’s supporters have vowed to maintain pressure for transparency, with plans for a peaceful protest outside EFCC offices if their demands for access aren’t met. The situation remains fluid as observers await official statements regarding the influencer’s status and the basis for the food access restrictions.
