The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has firmly denied reports claiming that its officials shared forfeited assets linked to the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, and his associates.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale criticized the online publication that made the allegation, calling it a product of ignorance and mischief. The EFCC emphasized that the concept of “sharing proceeds of forfeited assets” is entirely foreign to the agency.

Oyewale stated, “No official of the Commission was, or has ever been, involved in the sharing of any proceeds of forfeited assets. The notion itself is infantile.” He further pointed out that both the EFCC Act of 2004 and the Proceeds of Crime (Recovery and Management) Act of 2022 clearly outline the processes for handling such assets, with no provision for the sharing of proceeds.

The EFCC urged the public to dismiss the claims made by the online publication and reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability in asset recovery and management.
