The Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has dismissed the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, challenging the victory of Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the September 21, 2024, gubernatorial election.

In a unanimous decision, the three-member tribunal ruled that the PDP and Ighodalo failed to provide substantial evidence proving that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) violated the Electoral Act during the election process. The tribunal also held that the petitioners did not successfully demonstrate that Okpebholo did not secure the majority of lawful votes to be declared the rightful winner.

This ruling comes after months of legal battles, with the PDP insisting that the election was fraught with irregularities. However, today’s verdict solidifies Okpebholo’s position as the duly elected governor of Edo State.
