Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has revealed that the state and Federal Government have established a joint fact-finding committee to investigate the recent killing of 16 persons identified as hunters in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area.
The governor made the disclosure yesterday while receiving a high-powered delegation from Kano State led by Deputy Governor Aminu Gwarzo at the Government House in Benin City.
Governor Okpebholo stated that President Bola Tinubu was deeply concerned about the incident and committed to ensuring national security.
“The President is personally invested in resolving this matter and preventing such tragedies in future,” Okpebholo said. “This committee will thoroughly examine the root causes and recommend lasting solutions.”
The Kano delegation presented a detailed report from their own investigative committee, which documented the victims’ identities, survivors, and next-of-kin. The deceased hailed from five local government areas in Kano State.
Deputy Governor Gwarzo expressed appreciation for Edo State’s cooperation, stating: “We trust in Governor Okpebholo’s promise of justice. What we seek is a transparent resolution of this painful incident.”
The Edo governor emphasized the state’s peaceful coexistence with all residents and noted the longstanding economic ties between Edo and Kano states. He assured that findings from the joint committee would be made public to ensure transparency.
This development comes three weeks after the tragic incident that claimed the hunters’ lives, sparking interstate concerns about security and communal relations.
