Asue Ighodalo, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the September 21, 2024, Edo State governorship election, has alleged that his mandate was “brazenly stolen” and condemned the “shameful subversion” of the people’s will.

In a statement released on Monday, Ighodalo expressed his gratitude to the people of Edo State for their overwhelming support despite threats of violence, arrests, and financial inducements. “You are the true heroes of our democracy, and your sacrifices for a better Edo State will never be forgotten,” he said.

Ighodalo, who emphasized that his aspiration was driven by a genuine desire to serve, stated that his campaign’s progress was unjustly halted by those who do not have the state’s best interests at heart. “That day will forever be etched in our history as one of our darkest moments, marked by the brazen theft of our mandate and the shameful subversion of the will of the people,” he remarked.

He also urged his supporters not to be discouraged, asserting that the temporary triumph of evil over good would eventually be undone.
