Sheikha Mahra bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, daughter of Dubai’s ruler, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has publicly declared her divorce via her Instagram account.
The announcement, posted on Wednesday, marks a rare instance of a princess in the United Arab Emirates announcing such a personal matter on social media.
“I hereby declare our divorce,” the 30-year-old princess stated on Instagram. “I divorce you, I divorce you, and I divorce you. Take care. Your ex-wife.”
Sheikha Mahra’s marriage to Sheikh Mana Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, another member of the Dubai ruling family, last year was celebrated lavishly and covered extensively in magazines like Harper’s Bazaar Arabia and Grazia. The couple welcomed a daughter shortly after their marriage. However, all photos of her husband have been removed from her account, and there are no images of her on Sheikh Mana’s Instagram either.
The princess, known for her active presence at red carpet events and on social media, has garnered nearly half a million followers on Instagram, where she shares her interests in horses, charity work, and personal snapshots.
While speculation arose about possible hacking of her account, both the post and her account remain active over a day since the announcement was made.
Newsmen reached out to both the Dubai government’s Media Office and Sheikha Mahra’s media office for comment, but responses are awaited. Neither the UAE government nor Sheikh Mana has publicly addressed the Instagram post as of now.
