Operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS) and the Nigeria Police took over the Lagos State House of Assembly in the early hours of Monday, ensuring tight security around the premises in Alausa, Ikeja.

The deployment follows the recent leadership crisis in the Assembly, which saw Speaker Mudashiru Obasa removed from office while he was in the United States. His ouster, executed by 32 out of the 40 lawmakers on January 13, has since divided opinions within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the influential Governance Advisory Council (GAC).

Despite the heavy security presence, the newly appointed Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, arrived at the Assembly complex with her convoy at about 11:15 a.m. Upon her arrival, lawmakers reaffirmed their confidence in her leadership as the House prepared for plenary.

The situation remains tense, with political observers closely watching developments in the state legislature.
