The Department of State Services (DSS) in Nigeria has finally allowed the family and legal representatives of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, to visit him after sustained pressure.
Kanu’s lead counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, had earlier raised concerns that both his lawyers and family members were being denied access to him at the DSS headquarters in Abuja. However, following increased advocacy, his younger brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, confirmed they were eventually granted access.
Speaking to Newsmen, Prince Kanu urged the DSS to adhere to court orders that permit Kanu’s legal team and family to visit him twice a week. He warned that continued restrictions on access to Kanu tarnish Nigeria’s global reputation.
He further stressed that Kanu is not the country’s problem but could be part of the solution, calling on the Federal Government to ensure the DSS complies with legal directives regarding his detention.
