
Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State, Nigeria has been appointed as the Chairman of the South-South Governors’ Forum, following a regional meeting held in Yenagoa on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.
The forum, which brought together governors from the South-South region, focused on pressing issues and strategies for regional development. In a communiqué issued after the meeting, the governors reaffirmed their commitment to collaborative governance, unity, and sustainable development.
The meeting was attended by: Bassey Otu (Cross River), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers), Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom) and Douye Diri (Bayelsa – Host Governor)
However, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo was absent and did not send a representative, raising questions about his stance on regional cooperation.
The governors emphasized their dedication to fostering unity and collaboration across the region. They also discussed strategies to address economic growth, security, and infrastructure development.
As the newly appointed chairman, Governor Diri is expected to lead efforts in advancing the collective interests of the South-South states and ensuring the region’s development goals are met.
