Nollywood actor and Lagos State lawmaker Desmond Elliot has addressed recent allegations questioning his sexuality, explaining that he chose not to respond to what he described as “malicious gossip.”
In an interview with TVC, the representative of Surulere Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly said he views the rumors as inconsequential to his life and public service. “Why would I respond to allegations made against me when it did not reduce or increase my life?” Elliot questioned.
The lawmaker emphasized his focus on serving his constituency rather than engaging with unfounded accusations. “I am straight. You can never have anyone straighter than me,” he stated firmly. While addressing the rumors, Elliot added that individuals should feel free to express themselves, as long as they do so within legal boundaries. “If some people want to enjoy themselves through publicity, that is left to them, but I do not care, really. Do you, enjoy yourself, but do it within the law and with respect to your neighbors,” he said.
Elliot’s remarks come in response to recent reports by a blogger listing prominent Nigerians rumored to be involved in same-sex relationships.
