The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the mass defection of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other elected officials and party leaders in Delta State to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as painful and disappointing.

Acting National Chairman of PDP, Umar Damagum, expressed his sentiments at a ceremony to issue a Certificate of Return to Mr. Jude Ezenwafor, the party’s candidate for the Anambra Governorship election. Damagum noted that the defection was unexpected, given the party’s magnanimity towards Delta State.

“We gave Delta all our support, from the emergence of the governor to his predecessor, who also doubled as our vice presidential candidate. We least expected this action from them,” Damagum said.

Despite the defection, Damagum emphasized that the PDP would take over its structures in Delta State immediately and set up a caretaker committee. He also urged party members to close ranks and rescue Nigeria, stressing that no challenge is insurmountable.

Damagum expressed confidence in Ezenwafor’s victory in the Anambra governorship election, assuring him of the party’s total support and commitment. Ezenwafor, in his remarks, pledged to tackle insecurity in Anambra, leveraging his experience as a former senior special assistant to the governor on security.
