Delta Air Lines has confirmed the resumption of daily flights between Lagos, Nigeria, and New York starting in December 2024. The U.S.-based airline, one of the oldest operating globally, will upgrade its services by replacing the Airbus A330-200, which carries 223 passengers, with the larger Airbus A330-900neo, which accommodates 281 passengers.

In a statement provided to newsmen on Monday, October 7, 2024, Delta highlighted that the expansion aims to meet growing demand and enhance the overall travel experience. “This decision underscores Delta’s dedication to aligning its services with customer preferences and the evolving dynamics of air travel,” the airline noted.

Mary Gbobaniyi, Delta’s Head of Sales for West Africa, expressed excitement about the added capacity and enhanced experience for Nigerian travelers. “This development, which will add more flights to the Nigerian market, could not have been better timed. Increased capacity and a larger aircraft mean more options and an elevated experience for our customers,” she stated.

The airline also emphasized its commitment to continuously monitoring travel patterns, ensuring that services match customer demand. “By closely examining where customers wish to fly, Delta effectively matches capacity to meet demand,” Delta’s statement read.

Additionally, the airline encouraged passengers to arrive at the Lagos airport at least three hours before departure for smooth check-in and security screening. For premium travelers, Delta will offer exclusive access to the Delta One Lounge at John F. Kennedy International Airport, providing luxurious amenities and personalized services to enhance the travel experience.

Delta’s decision to expand its Lagos route comes in response to positive customer feedback and growing demand in the Nigerian market. The airline remains committed to fostering connections and opportunities through its global network.
