Dele Momodu, publisher of Ovation International and prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has declared that his soul has left the party, though his body remains. He made the statement during an interview on the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State’s programme, expressing deep concern over the internal divisions weakening the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Momodu lamented that the party’s disunity poses a serious challenge to its ability to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). “If the PDP were united, it could defeat the APC in 2027. But too many forces within and outside are fighting against this,” he said.

He accused APC leaders at all levels of deliberately working to divide and weaken the PDP, describing the ruling party’s strategy as one aimed at destabilizing the main opposition. Momodu also warned that some PDP members are being used to sabotage the party from within, though he emphasized that the PDP remains committed to following due process in addressing internal issues.

Regarding the 2027 presidential election, Momodu stated that only a strong coalition of political parties can unseat President Bola Tinubu. He noted the difficulty of defeating the incumbent without a formidable team and stressed that any successful challenger must come from a different region of Nigeria than Tinubu.

Despite his criticisms, Momodu clarified that he would not accept any government appointment while still a member of the PDP. He also dismissed rumors that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is planning to defect to the APC, affirming Atiku’s focus on the 2027 election as a leader of the opposition.

Momodu’s remarks highlight ongoing tensions within the PDP as it prepares for the next electoral cycle amid defections and internal strife.
