Veteran Nigerian actor Patrick Doyle has lauded Afrobeat superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, for his ability to rise above public criticism with grace and humility.
Doyle’s remarks, shared in a Facebook post on Sunday, January 5, 2025, likened Davido’s life journey to the philosophy of Nigeria’s late political icon, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
Doyle recalled an inscription, “Eebudola” (which translates to “adversity has become a blessing”), seen at Awolowo’s home in Ikenne during a birthday party for Segun Awolowo. The late sage had explained in an interview that criticisms and adversities he faced often transformed into blessings, a concept that resonated deeply with Doyle.
The “Eebudola” Parallel
Applying this philosophy to Davido, Doyle noted that the singer’s global influence continues to grow despite the relentless criticisms he endures. He described Davido as a “global star whose stature shines brighter with each attack he ignores.”
Doyle further praised Davido’s humility, attributing it to his upbringing and the influence of his father, Adedeji Adeleke, whom he described as “the most self-effacing billionaire around.” While Davido’s lifestyle may seem flashy and brash, Doyle emphasized that it is a requirement of his profession.
A Model of Humility and Growth
Highlighting Davido’s maturity, Doyle noted that the artist has always accepted corrections from elders with humility and refrained from rude responses. This, according to Doyle, sets him apart as a true role model in the entertainment industry.
Concluding his post, Doyle referred to Davido as “the Eebudola of the entertainment industry,” a testament to the singer’s resilience and growing legacy in the face of adversity.
