Grammy-nominated artist Davido has opened up about the profound emotional journey following the tragic loss of his son, Ifeanyi, in 2022, revealing that the striking resemblance between his late child and his newborn son feels like a spiritual return.
In a heartfelt interview with Apple Music 1’s Ebro Darden, the Afrobeats superstar shared how the birth of his twins with wife Chioma Rowland in October 2023 brought both healing and an eerie sense of familiarity. “The boy looks just like my son that passed. It’s scary—it’s literally him,” Davido said. “We’re like, ‘No, it’s him. He came back.'”
Ifeanyi Adeleke tragically drowned in the family’s Banana Island home on November 1, 2022, a loss that Davido described as life-altering. “That type of loss makes you just be like, ‘I’m out,'” he admitted, recalling how he retreated to focus on his family and mental health. The arrival of the twins—a boy and a girl—less than a year later, followed by their lavish June 2024 wedding, deepened his faith. “God is real,” he emphasized.
The “Unavailable” singer revealed that the experience transformed him into a source of strength for others grappling with grief. “It remoulded me to encourage people going through hard times,” he said, reflecting on how his 2023 album Timeless and family milestones became testaments to resilience.
Beyond personal revelations, Davido teased upcoming projects, including a potential joint album with Chris Brown, with whom he’s recorded roughly 20 unreleased tracks. “We could put out two albums right now,” he hinted, praising Brown’s career resurgence.
The artist also confirmed ventures into film, serving as an executive producer for a movie and documentary with director Dammy Twitch. “We’re working on my documentary,” he added, signaling a new creative chapter.
Davido’s candid reflections underscore a journey of loss, renewal, and artistic evolution—a narrative resonating deeply with fans worldwide.
