Al Nassr football club faced a challenging match without their captain, Cristiano Ronaldo, on Monday, September 16, 2024, as they were held to a 1-1 draw against Al Shorta in the Asian Champions League opener in Baghdad, Iraq. Ronaldo, who did not travel with the team, was diagnosed with a viral infection, according to a statement issued by the club.
The statement read, “Al-Nassr captain Cristiano Ronaldo wasn’t feeling well today and was diagnosed with a viral infection. The team’s doctor confirmed he needs to rest and stay at his place. As a result, he will not be travelling with the team to Iraq today. We wish a speedy recovery to our captain.”
Despite Ronaldo’s absence, Al Nassr got off to a good start with Sultan Al Ghannam scoring in the 14th minute, but the team couldn’t secure a win. Ronaldo, who joined the Saudi club in 2022, is still seeking his first major trophy with the team.
