Saudi Arabia has officially announced that the holy month of Ramadan will commence on Saturday, March 1, following the sighting of the crescent moon on Friday evening.
The announcement was made by Saudi authorities, confirming the beginning of the month-long period of fasting, prayers, and spiritual reflection observed by millions of Muslims worldwide.
Other countries, including Qatar and Oman, have also declared Saturday as the first day of Ramadan.
Meanwhile, Nigerian Muslims are awaiting confirmation from the President-General of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III. If the crescent moon is sighted in Nigeria this evening, fasting will commence nationwide on the same day.
Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is a time of fasting from dawn to sunset, increased acts of worship, and charity. It is considered one of the most significant religious observances in Islam.
Further updates on the official announcement from Nigerian authorities will follow.
