An Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti has sentenced a fake doctor, Olatide Temitope Emmanuel, to death by hanging for the murder of a woman after falsely presenting himself as a medical practitioner.

The 48-year-old was arraigned before the court on a two-count charge bordering on murder and impersonation. According to the charge, Emmanuel falsely represented himself as a medical doctor and operated illegally before the incident that led to the victim’s death.

The prosecution told the court that the convict murdered the woman, identified as Falade Bosede, on June 24, 2019, at Odo Ikole compound in Erinmope Ekiti. Investigations also revealed that he had earlier impersonated a medical doctor at Ajebamidele Street in Otun Ekiti while running an illegal medical practice.

During the trial, the court heard evidence showing that the accused carried out medical activities without proper training or certification, leading to the tragic death of the victim. The prosecution argued that his actions amounted to criminal negligence and deliberate misconduct.

After reviewing the evidence and testimonies presented during the trial, the court found Emmanuel guilty of the charges. The presiding judge subsequently sentenced him to death by hanging, ruling that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt.

The judgment brings closure to a case that began several years ago and highlights the dangers posed by unqualified individuals posing as medical professionals. Authorities have repeatedly warned the public to verify the credentials of healthcare providers before seeking treatment.
